About

The Nebraska Wander Freunde Trailblazers (NWFT) was formed in March 1979 as one of the first American clubs in the American Volkssport Association (AVA).

We  offer 6 “Traditional” or One Day Walks in September, October and November and again in  March, April and May.  Some years have bonus walks in June and December.  The NWFT currently hosts 10 different Year Round Walks, along the Interstate 80 corridor and in the greater Omaha metropolitan area, including western Iowa.  We participate in Meetup to host group “Meet and Eats”, walking one of our Year Round Walks and having coffee or lunch after the walk.

In January, we hold our Annual Meeting, which is a dinner meeting installing new club officers and recognizing our “Walker of the Year”.

The rest of the year, the club hosts monthly meetings on the first Monday from September through June (except when a holiday falls on that Monday, then the meeting is held the following Monday).  Meetings are held in the basement of Morning Star Lutheran Church, 331 S. 85th Avenue, Omaha, NE  68114.  Meetings feature a speaker, club business and refreshments. All attendees are eligible to win the drawing for a $10 prize.

During the summer months, we get together and participate in local activities, such as baseball games, ice cream outings, tours and civic events.

You do not have to be a member in order to participate in a walk or come to any of our activities, although we do encourage membership.  Click to open the Membership Application Form in a new window, where it can be printed for you to fill out.  Members are recognized in our bi-monthly newsletter for achievements, birthdays and anniversaries and receive discounts on club activities.
